TONIGHT THIS HAPPENS by Ann Lewis

ON THE EVE OF HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON'S HISTORIC NOMINATION AS THE DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE FOR PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, VOICES4HILLARY HAD THE GOOD FORTUNE TO RUN INTO ANN LEWIS, SENIOR ADVISOR TO HILLARY DURING THE 2008 CAMPAIGN.

WE THANK ANN FOR PROVIDING US WITH THESE MOVING AND PRECISE WORDS WHICH CAPTURE THE MEANING OF THE MOMENT THAT IS FAST APPROACHING.

AL: I have been to many conventions of our party. This one is special. Some men, but especially women, smile broadly at each other. Strangers hug each other. We all know. There are no words.

This is a transcendent experience, and one that we could scarcely imagine when we began this journey. Most revolutions devour their founders. We are fortunate enough to be here and to benefit with our daughters and granddaughters, and sons and grandsons from this revolution.

When Hillary first ran for the Senate from NY, she used the example of Harriet Tubman- just keep going. Tonight we cheer Hillary Clinton, who kept going, kept leading, and brought us all to this historic day.
