"Refugees Are Skittles"-Sounds like 1939? by John Howell

Candy-Colored Comms

"Skittles are candy. Refugees are people."

This surreal announcement from Wrigley, the owner of Skittles (and my childhood favorite, Doublemint gum), is the reply to the Tweet from Trump Junior that compared Syrian refugees to a bowl of the candies, in which a few "would kill you."

This mini-event, a bizarre exchange even by this weird campaign's standards, interrupted the reasonable, rational, and altogether smart piece I was working up about the differences between politics and policy.

It did cause me to pause . . . what is the point of a logical exercise that is muffled in a constantly spewing fog of Trumpian crap.

Let me try, though..

Briefly, politics is the art of acquiring power to enact public policy.
