Kinzinger calls for Greene to be removed from GOP conference after Holocaust remark.

Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) on Tuesday called on Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) to be removed from the House GOP conference over controversial remarks likening mask mandates to the treatment of Jews during the Holocaust.

"You can't stop somebody from calling themselves a Republican or declaring themselves a Republican," Kinzinger said during a Politico Live event.

"But what we can do as a party is take a stand and say you don't belong in our conference. That's what I think we should do. I think we should kick her out of the conference, prevent her from coming to conference meetings, benefiting from conference materials."

"And I'm not sure if that'll happen, but it's just going to continue this kind of stuff. It's just mind-numbing," he said.

The comments marked the latest rebuke of Greene from within the GOP after she sparked backlash last week by comparing rules mandating masks on the House floor to the genocide of Jews during World War II.

"You know, we can look back at a time in history when people were told to wear a gold star, and they were definitely treated like second-class citizens, so much so that they were put in trains and taken to gas chambers in Nazi Germany. And this is exactly the type of abuse that [Speaker] Nancy Pelosi [D-Calif.] is talking about," she said.

Greene doubled down Tuesday, tweeting, "Vaccinated employees get a vaccination logo just like the Nazis forced Jewish people to wear a gold star."

Those remarks drew criticism from top House Republicans, including Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (Calif.) and Minority Whip Steve Scalise(La.).

Marjorie is wrong, and her intentional decision to compare the horrors of the Holocaust with wearing masks is appalling. The Holocaust is the greatest atrocity committed in history. The fact that this needs to be stated today is deeply troubling," McCarthy said in a statement.

Greene's comments were just the latest in a string of controversial remarks. She drew criticism for past social l media posts calling for violence against Democrats and supporting conspiracy theories such as QAnon.

House Democrats earlier this year voted to kick her off her committees over those remarks, though Republicans opposed the effort. They argued that the earlier comments came before Greene held elected office.

Kinzinger, however, noted that argument doesn't fly with Greene's latest remarks.

"Well, she's been saying this as a member of Congress," he said.

Greene's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Hill.
