Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is causing a stir on social media after posing with a shirt mocking the Supreme Court nomination of Merrick Garland.

The Senate majority leader, who effectively blocked former President Obama's 2016 nomination of Garland, can be seen in the photos holding a shirt that reads McConnell's name above Garland's.

A picture of Garland's face along with the date of his nomination and when it expired are also seen.

The bottom of the shirt includes a quote that reads, "Gone but not forgotten."

McConnell is seen signing the shirt in the second photo.

The young student seen posing with the Kentucky Republican is Malcomb Haming, a McConnell Scholar at the University of Louisville who posted the photos to Twitter. Haming told The Post that the encounter took place at an event at the Jefferson County Republican Party headquarters.

The college sophomore tweeted that McConnell said he loved the shirt. In response to controversy surrounding the photo, Haming said in a message to The Post, "The whole thing is clearly satire. People underestimate @senatemajldr's sense of humor. He's a funny guy."

McConnell has faced criticism over his treatment of Garland's nomination, most notably when he told Obama in 2016 that the Senate would not meet with Garland or consider him during an election year.

The Senate majority leader argued at the time that with the 2016 election coming up, voters should get to decide which candidate should nominate the justice who would fill the late Antonin Scalia's seat.

McConnell's controversial decision led then-Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley to pledge that he would never fill a Supreme Court vacancy during a presidential election year.

Voices4America Post Script. McConnell is arrogant and evil. We need to fight with all our hearts and souls to remove him and #DerangedDonald in 2020. #BlueWave202
